About this product
VCI film is polyethylene film with a vapor corrosion inhibitor built in. Wrapped around metal parts, tools or machinery and closed up, it slowly releases a protective vapor that settles on the metal and slows rust, with no oil or coating to apply and wipe off afterwards. This roll is 4 mil thick (0.004 in, 102 micron), 36 in (914 mm) wide and 500 ft (152 m) long, in a yellow tint that makes treated film easy to tell from plain film at a glance.
It is a flat film for wrapping, covering and lining. It is not stretch wrap and will not cling to a pallet the way 80 gauge hand film does; for pallet wrapping see our pallet stretch film. The minimum order is 3 rolls, and the price falls at 6, 12 and 24 rolls.
What it is used for
Typical jobs are wrapping machined parts, castings, fasteners, tools and spare parts for storage or export, covering machinery and equipment on a pallet or a deck, and lining crates and cases so the metal inside is protected. VCI works only in an enclosed space, so the film has to be folded, sealed or taped closed around the item; an open drape gives little protection. How it ships
A roll weighs about 20 kg (45 lb), so even the minimum order is over 60 kg and freight is a real part of the cost. Freight is always quoted separately: tell us the delivery address and we quote it before you pay.

What is VCI film and how does it work?
VCI stands for vapor (or volatile) corrosion inhibitor. The film carries a chemical that vaporizes very slowly and settles on nearby metal as a thin protective layer, which slows rust and tarnish. It works only inside an enclosed space, so the film has to be closed around the item.
Is this stretch film?
No. This is a flat 4 mil film for wrapping and covering metal, not a clinging pallet wrap. If you need pallet stretch wrap, our 18 in × 1500 ft 80 gauge hand film is a separate product; a VCI stretch wrap is not one of our stocked lines, but you can ask for a quote.
How long does the protection last, and which metals does it protect?
That depends on the grade and on how well the item is enclosed, and it is stated on the manufacturer’s technical data sheet. We do not quote a figure on this page because we do not hold the data sheet yet. Ask for it with your enquiry and we will send it before you order.
Is 3 rolls really the minimum?
Yes. Every product has a minimum order worth at least $500, and for this film that is 3 rolls, which comes to $525. A roll is 500 ft long and weighs about 20 kg, so three rolls wrap a lot of metal. If you use less than a roll a month, a smaller supplier or a ready-made VCI bag is a better fit, and we would rather say so.
Do you supply other widths, VCI shrink film, bags or paper?
Not as stocked lines. The manufacturer makes other sizes, including VCI shrink film, so send the width, length, thickness and quantity through the quote request form and we will price it.
Can I use it around food?
No. This film is not intended for food contact, and VCI products should be kept away from food and from anything that will be eaten or worn.
